The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones
by Alice Sebold

“My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie.  I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973…”

I started reading this book in January while at Jury Duty.  I purchased this book in 2002 and after getting it home I couldn’t understand what had compelled me to buy it so it stayed on my bookshelf until I finally packed it into a box and put it in storage.  A friend of mine gave me her copy in August and insisted I read it.  Jury Duty seemed like a good time if any to read it.  The Lovely Bones is a must read.

The first page or so left me fighting back tears as this young girl describes her murder, how heaven is for her and how her loved ones are effected.  After the first chapter I put it down for a few months and picked it back up in April.  I won’t go into great detail in case you haven’t read it but it was one of the most moving stories I have ever read.

Children are precious.  I do not have children yet but I could not EVER imagine having to go through the loss of a child to such horrid means.  It is a scary thought to teach your child the dangers of strangers and to yet be polite and respectful simultaneously.

My heart goes out to those who have lost a child, by any means.  If you haven’t read this and plan to do so, you’ll read it and never be the same!

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Fun Fridays Random Thoughts

Its party time…oh its party time!

What are you up to on this Fabulous Friday?  The sun is shining, the weather’s hot with a slight breeze and its a perfect evening to rehearse an anticipated wedding.  I’m off tonight to a wedding rehearsal.  My dear friends Shakira and Malek are getting married.  I’ve known her since I was 8 and I can’t wait to start celebrating their union!  Let me know how you fill your time on Friday nights!  I’ll be doing research on fun places to go to in the Bridgeport area so stay tuned for that!  Enjoy the rest of the day!

Until then

Are your lips kiss-alicious?

Happy Wednesday to all you beautiful people…I hope your day went as splendid as mine did…I have to admit though it didn’t start off as grand as it ended….

This winter season the cold has done a number on both my skin and my lips.  Particularly my lips.  I have this bad habit of biting my lips and this winter they just HURT. Luckily I went to the Shecky’s Girl’s Night Out Event in December and discovered an amazing product in my Goodie Bag that SMACKED THE HURT AWAY!  Blistex has nothing on einstein lip therapy.  It has Vitamin A+ E, restores moisture and has cooling lip relief that lets you know its working THE MAGIC.  It leaves your lips looking kiss-alicious! It isn’t glossy so its good for the ladies and the gents.  I haven’t seen them in any of the regular drug stores so let me know if you find it other than online.  Last I heard they run about 6 bucks but its lasted me all winter…I was kind of sad this morning because its almost finished and winter seems to want to hold on a little longer.

Remember to always take care of you!  Stay Tuned for next week’s Wake Up Wednesday blog where our Health Guru, Ms. Pillowz, gives us the 411 on fasting!  In the meantime take a moment to read her latest blog Much Ado About Goals at BigDivaHq.com as we’ll be revisiting goals next week!
