In January I read a post on the site A Proverbs Wife, where Saidah challenged women to up their game at home. She explained that as a stay at home mom, it becomes easy to get into a slump. It is comfy to stay in pajamas if you do not have to leave the house. While I am not a stay at home mom, I knew that I was in a slump. I had clothes in my closet and makeup to paint my face with but I wasn’t using either. I remember months back I would say to myself, next month, you’ll start next month and take extra time to get yourself put together. Or else its just wasted money. The next month would come though and I’d still grab the same jeans, throw on a comfy t-shirt, slather my facial moisturizer on my face and call it a day. Do you have days like that too?
Then towards the end of January I read another post on Saidah’s site, but this time Megan was sharing her story of how she had taken the #Frumpy2Fab challenge. Reading Megan’s words reminded me of the words I repeated to myself everyday, I should take this challenge. By the end of the post I had talked myself from challenging myself for the month of February.
Here are some pictures posted on Instagram with #Frumpy2Fab:
February’s #Frumpy2Fab challenge was extremely successful for me. I felt good because I looked good. The bonus was hearing my boyfriend shower me with compliments, every single day! I got to use clothes in my closet that I had purchased but still had their price tags. I gave myself enough time in the morning to apply my makeup to compliment my outfit. I found that as each day passed in February, the easier the morning routine became and by day 28 I felt a small sense of accomplishment.
Years ago the only makeup I was comfortable with was lipstick. The process of applying makeup was foreign to me. It sounded complicated and I thought it should be left to the professionals. I dabbled a bit with eyeshadow and mascara but most days I stuck to just lipstick. It wasn’t until I met Maria, a Chanel Makeup artist, that I decided to learn. She was patient with me and explained the process. I made a few purchases and with some practice my makeup didn’t look too shabby. Have you ever gotten tips from a cosmetics counter?
I love AND hate clothes shopping. I say love because I like finding clothes that make me LOOK good because that in turn makes me FEEL good. Its the process of finding those pieces that I hate with a passion. I’m a curvy petite Latina; I have a hard time finding clothes that fit AND that don’t require some type of alterations. When I shop and find something that fits, I buy it on the spot. You never know when that will happen again. LOL Do you have a hard time finding clothes that fit?
I am going to do the challenge again in April and I welcome you to take it with me. The new season is here and I am sure now is the perfect time for you to initiate that change! The first photo you take will be your before and after. Follow up the rest of the month by sharing your FABULOUS photo on Instagram and tag @djrealt7, @saidahaproverbswife, and #Frumpy2Fab. You can also share your pictures on Facebook after you LIKE the My Pocketful of Thoughts Page. Will you join the challenge?
Until then,

You look GORGEOUS!!!!! I work at home now and it is easy to stay frumpy and comfy. I have clothes that could make me fab and comfy so I will do the challenge with you in April. I am sure my husband will thank you!
Thank you! February was a good month for me lol … I’m so excited that you’re taking the challenge this month! He can thank me shortly š Thanks so much for stopping by Janeane and joining the challenge… I can’t wait to see the pictures!
Awww…her so pretty! Lol, good job Arelis!
thanks Tracy!
You look marvelous darling!
I’m guilty of the mom-frump-dom syndrome.
Some clothes don’t fit and others just don’t fit the same post-baby.
But I’m trying to do better!
I think we all get into the slump… I’ve gotten better with giving away clothes that don’t fit me anymore … it’ll give you the room you need to see the clothes that do fit and it’ll make you excited again about getting dressed in the morning!
Look how pretty you look!!! I am so mad at that alleged frumpy picture. You turned it all the way up, son! lol I got all fab on Thursday and forgot to take my picture, but I did feel really good. There is something to going the extra step and getting gussied up. Great job!
Thanks so much Ms. Pillowz, I try! It’s funny how looking good makes you feel good. I was very adamant about not needing makeup to look nice. I wanted to give people the “real” package. It was really because I couldn’t recreate what I would get done by the appointments at makeup counters …I would think wow, that is me? Once you understand how to put makeup on, its just a matter of practice makes purpose. I think if we give ourselves an extra 15 to 20 minutes to look good for ourselves in the morning, it’ll change our whole day! …but that is just my opinion š Thanks for stopping by love!
Gorgeous, gorgeous pics! But then you are a beautiful lady to begin with.
aww shucks Caroll… now you’re making me blush!
Challenge accepted!
Seriously, I am amazed at how little time it takes to put on makeup, how comfy some of those clothes I have been not wearing are and just how much better I feel when I take an extra few minutes to get ready in the morning. My guy liking it? Bonus!
BONUS! Rachee I can’t wait to see pics make sure you tag @DjRelat7 on instagram or if you upload a pic to fb or twitter! Thanks for stopping by!

You look beautiful Arelis! My favorite picture of you is the last one in the post. As you said, when you look good you feel good, and you definitely look very happy in all of your pictures. Doing all the girly stuff does take a bit of time, but it is worth it. I too find it difficult to shop for clothes. It is my own fault, as I keep letting my weight go up and and down. I just need to get back at it. Perhaps challenge myself as you did.
Have a great weekend!! š
Sicorra thanks! I’ve fallen off the wagon since April but I really need to challenge myself again; I agree it does take time but it is worth it. I like getting compliments from my boyfriend. But looking good really does change your attitude. My weight has been a constant struggle. I know I need constant exercise but sometimes I just can’t do it. I’m working on it now and hope to get into the healthy habit.
Have a great weekend to and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us! Perhaps we can challenge each other next month!
HI Arelis! You look marvelous, dahling! I love this movement — frump to fab! I am very frumpy on the weekends. I never want to get dressed or put on makeup – just lounge and be lazy. Lo and Behold, that’s usually the time when people decide to pop over to my house. It can be a bit embarrassing especially as a beauty and fashion blogger lol š
Thanks for sharing!
Nicole
Hey Nicole! Thanks! My friend over at Aproverbswife.com started that up! I love the concept behind it! I do need to challenge myself again. I find I’ve gone back to just throwing on moisturizer on my face and throwing on jeans and a t-shirt. Its just easier but I don’t want to feel like I’ve wasted money buying cosmetics :/ Sometimes we all need a break and the weekends are great for being lazy š
Thanks so much for stopping by Nicole!
You look great, Arelis! I sometimes think I specialize in the scariest look possible when I roll out of bed in the morning. I usually have my hair in a pony tail on top of my head. By morning enough has escaped the pony tail so that I have plumes of hair sticking out on all sides, plus the top & bottom. It’s quite a look! It always makes me laugh.
LOL My hair is usually all over the place when I wake up so I’ll pass a quick brush through it to not scare anyone on the way to the bathroom. If only I could get it to behave while I slept.
Thanks so much for stopping by Maggie!
Hi Arelis,
You look lovely in these pictures. I must admit, I don’t like wearing make-up much and I’m usually dressed for walking the dogs, but it’s nice to get dressed up occasionally – I’m just not very good at it!
Thanks Sue! I like dressing up and throwing on makeup but I don’t give myself enough time to get ready without being late. Dressing up occassionally is great, with a little extra practice you’ll be good. What’s the saying practice makes perfect?
Thanks for stopping by Sue and sharing your thoughts!
I would have loved to have taken part in this challenge. I get dressed but not dressed up. I put on my jeans and a nice shirt, my hair in a bun and a little make up.
I need to take some extra time and get myself ready for the day…it does give you this boost in energy when you do. You just might see in in April :).
Thanks for sharing this post with us. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
Corina, we should so do the challenge together. I have fallen off the wagon and I don’t get dressed everyday like I’d like. I only do it when I go to the gym and even then I don’t always run on time so I skip the makeup.
I hope you’re having a great weekend to that leads to a great week!
I think you just wrote my story! lol Though you wear your frumpytofab better than I do right now! I am still in my pj’s – but I am working from home, nobody else home. I’ll make it a point to be showered and dressed well before anyone gets home!
I’m with you on that finding clothes to fit part! I’m also petite, with more “junk in the trunk” from running, more up front from 2 kids. Love finding clothes that fit, but it feels like torture to do so!
Happy Monday – it’s time to take myself from frumpytofab now!
Hey Carol; If I worked from home I probably wouldn’t change at all but since I have to leave the house I might as well make some effort. I loved taking Saidah’s challenge and I think I might have to take it again next month because I’ve slid off the wagon.
I didn’t even bother going out and buying clothes yet for this fall season; aside from being on a tight budget you’re so right Carol its TORTURE sometimes to find a few pieces that fit. That is how I justify buying clothes sometimes. BUT IT FIT! lol
I’m sure you looked awesome yesterday! Feel free to snap a shot and throw it on Instagram with the #Frumpy2Fab happy Tuesday!
Gorgeous! You have the most beautiful smile! Where I work from home, I sometimes go for days looking a bit… frumpy. I should fix myself up more, I know my husband would appreciate it. š
Donna thanks! Getting compliments from my boyfriend was definitely a perk to getting dressed and throwing on some makeup. Poor guy usually seems me in sweats and t-shirts. I’m obviously super comfortable with him to not feel the need to “dress up”
Thanks so much for stopping by Donna!
