Gone Girl and 2 Guns, Did they live up to the hype? Hmm…
Tuesday was the first time in two months since Daniel and I have stepped foot in a movie theater. It wasn’t from a lack of selections but from lack of opportunity. Summer was flying by us in a blur and when we lifted our heads up from the grind we found … Fall. How did you spend the last days of summer?
On Sunday we decided it was time to resurrect our Tuesday “Dinner & a Movie” date night. Looking at what was still out and newly released we had three options. Working on my relationship skills, I agreed to watch 2 Guns starring Denzel Washington and Mark Walburg. Who can “compromise”? Me, that’s who! I learned this week that compromise is for suckers. Really!
Here’s the 2 Guns Trailer:
The trailer looks pretty good right? As the movie credits rolled up the screen, I turned my head and waited to catch Daniel’s eye. He knew exactly what I was going to say. 2 Guns had some funny lines and scenes between Stig (Walburg) and Bobby (Denzel) but that’s the only good thing we had to say. I thought, hey two hot guys, SCORE. However, Mark never even took off his shirt. I’m not saying it was a requirement but it would’ve made it worth my while. Wink. Wink.
The plot which started off predictably slow, spiraled into a hot mess as my girl Shirley would say. HOT MESS! Speaking of hot messes, it reminded me of the book I just finished reading. Recommended to me by a friend, I began reading Gone Girl back in July on my mini vacation. After page 80 I put the book down. It did nothing for me and I could NOT see why I “had to read it”.
After another friend asked me how I liked it, I picked it back up. Everyone who saw my Instagram updates on my progress left comments about how great the book was. I got to the end of Part One and I thought, “finally this is picking up.” The more I read Part Two I thought Daniel better NEVER cross me. *Partial Spoiler ALERT* However, after the scene where Amy gets jumped for her cash by the *&&^*%$^, it all went down hill from there. It became a tornado of chaos that left me wanting to make an appointment with a shrink. I stayed up that night reading straight through to the end in hopes of it having a satisfying ending. You know, an ending that makes having gotten through to the end worth it. It NEVER came!
Gone Girl and 2 Guns left me wishing I had spent my time doing something else. Don’t believe the hype! If you have the book on your “must-read” GoodReads list then wait a little longer. 2 Guns, you can wait for it to come on TV. On the bright side I get to pick the next date night movie!
Did you ever watch a movie or read a book that didn’t live up to the hype? Have you read or watched something worth recommending?
Until then,

Oh! I LOVED Gone Girl and feel badly that you didn’t. I couldn’t put it down and was sorry that I didn’t have more time with it!
Rachee I feel bad that I didn’t like the book. I was so excited to read it. I think its because I’m in love and looking to get married that I could never imagine a scenario where I could do what Amy did to Nick. I also had a hard time with how there was so many different things that could have been done to catch her in a lie or in the act that wasn’t done. I did fly through part two and part three but I was left feeling scared for their future family… that poor child.
Not every book is for every body. Live and learn.
True… i still have some books with the book marks in them … unfinished. It is becoming a movie and I think with the story line it makes a much better film than the book. I’m wondering if they will modify anything @Pamlovesbooks:disqus .. Did you like it?
